Omphalos

A new ‘Omphalos’ was built in 2013 in the village Erdőmecske, located in the county (varmegye) Baranya, South-West-Hungary. Workers of the village, realized this stone monument after the design of Peter Schmid, emeritus professor and architect with strong interest in Peace-building and world-wide pioneer of Sustainable architecture. The interesting naturally shaped stones of this Omphalos were once a present to the village, where they didn’t get any use, but Peter Schmid had the idea to use them artistically and harmoniously meaningful. Beside the many, often mythological explanations about reason and function of the phenomenon of Omphalos, to be found in various types in all over the world, Peter Schmid asks Mother Earth with this sculpture to spread here her crystal, positive and peace-supporting energy out to people and over the environment.
